“Maintaining one’s health is as much an art as it is a science.” Tom Clunie, D.C.

Tom Clunie, D.C. graduated from Los Angeles College of Chiropractic in 1981. After practicing in Santa Cruz, California for many years, he moved to the Rogue Valley in 2006. His faith in chiropractic treatment is the result of his own experience: “When I developed severe allergies in the mid-1970s, my overwhelming positive experience with chiropractic care – after conventional medicine had failed – inspired me to pass on the benefits of chiropractic and natural health care on to others.”  Tom Clunie D.C.

Chiropractic therapy involves the manipulation of the spine and other joints in the body to relieve pain and restore normal nerve function and balance. It often incorporates other aspects of natural health care, including diet, exercise, and lifestyle.

Dr. Clunie’s chiropractic adjustments range from gentle activator and weight-bearing wedges to standard chiropractic manipulations, which are customized to the patient’s needs and wishes. Some form of massage or muscle-release work is always applied prior to adjustments. X -Rays are seldom necessary, and they are ordered only if there is a possible fracture or other serious disease, such as osteoporosis.

Dr. Clunie uses Applied Kinesiology (A.K.) to identify the underlying causes of health issues. A.K. is a diagnostic method that tests the functionality of various organ and meridians by using muscle strength as a guide.  Chronic pain and discomfort in a specific area
of your body is often caused by a referred imbalance in an organ or meridian system (meridians are energetic pathways). Applied Kinesiology allows the doctor to find the “cause behind the cause” of pain, which explains why chiropractic
adjustments, massage, and heat sometimes provide only
temporary relief. The underlying organ dysfunction must be addressed before permanent relief can occur. Please read the link above to learn more about this amazing, non-invasive, testing method.

Dr. Clunie believes different approaches work for different people. He follows a wholistic approach to health, which simply means looking at the whole person as a physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual being within their environment. It entails always keeping in mind the question, “What is the best next health step for this person?” Is it a chiropractic adjustment, a change in diet or supplements, marriage counseling, exercise, a better job, or even medical intervention?

Often a problem can be corrected in one or two visits. However, the longer you have had a condition, the longer it can take to correct it. You usually cannot “fix” a hip that has been locked-up for twenty years in just one or two visits. Also the more you actively participate in your own health care, the quicker you will respond to chiropractic treatment. Dr. Clunie’s goal is always to get you well as quickly and efficiently as possible.
